Hello.

I have a professionaly installed Cardbox 3.0 network consisting of 5 users. I have recently installed a laptop onto this setup with no problems. A new computer was installed into this setup yesterday in place of an existing computer. This new computer can connect to the server and access the database when none of the other computers are accessing it. When another user is accessing the database the new computer displays an error message 'Access is denied, unable to access database, another user might be using the database' (or something close to that effect). This also happens when the new computer is accessing the database and any one of the other computers tries to access the database, All the other computers bar the new one work together whilst accessing cardbox.

I have installed the Cardbox client on the new computer by taking the following steps;

1) Mapping a network drive on the new computer to the server (Z:)
2) Creating a shortcut on the new computer pointing to Z:\cardbox\cardbox 3.0\cardbox3.exe (This shortcut appears to be on all the current computers on the network that use Cardbox)
3) Running the shortcut

I am computer literate so please feel free to get technical, and any help is greatly appreciated.

Jeremy, you tell us that all the older computers have shared access to your database, so I assume you have the Cardbox server running. Are you sure that the new computer isn't accessing the database through the "My Computer" tab? That would generate the message you mentioned if the database had alreay been opened by the Server.

If by any chance you do not have a Cardbox Server (after all, you haven't mentioned it in your report of how you installed the new computer) then I think your problem isn't a problem at all: two people are actually accessing the same database at the same time straight from the Client, something they are only allowed to do through the Cardbox Server.

If you need further help, please be more specific about the layout of your network.
