I have been trying to follow the instructions for above.

I created cardbox3.ini with note pad and placed it into the Windows directory ie C:\windows\cardbox3.ini
but PDF´s still do not show with images.

I remember I did this one before with Martin very kindly helping me but I am obviously doing something wrong this time. But what?

There was something with Ghostscript?
See: http://cardbox.com/support/kb/importPDF.htm

Thanks Bert.
I created the cardbox3.ini file in the windows directory as advised:
[PDF]
Ghostscript=C:\Program Files\gs\gs8.51\bin\gsdll32.dll
but I still do not seem to be able to import PDF files. I must be doing something wrong but I don´t know what.
Any help?

Juan, when you emailed Support about this, you had installed the Ghostscript files in C:\Program Files\gs\gs8.63\bin.

If you have installed the Ghostscript files in C:\Program Files\gs\gs8.63\bin, the line in cardbox3.ini should read:

Ghostscript=C:\Program Files\gs\gs8.63\bin\gsdll32.dll

I know and I am sorry. I am on a different computer elsewhere and I have here downloaded and installed Ghostscript in C:\Program Files\gs\gs8.63\bin. I created a cardbox3.ini file on its own, not within a directory, in the windows directory and it now reads:
[PDF]
Ghostscript=C:\Program Files\gs\gs8.63\bin\gsdll32.dll
I have openned Cardbox. Tried to load file, and even cut and paste, but it can not see the PDF files.
I am obviously doing something wrong but can´t see what.

Maybe the Cardbox3.ini file should be in the Cardbox directory within the program files file.
Lets see.

Negative.
That hasn´t worked either.
Have re-booted, but still no difference. I am puzzled.
I used notepad to write the cardbox3.ini file as:
[PDF]
Ghostscript=C:\Program Files\gs\gs8.63\bin\gsdll32.dll
The instructions say that the cardbox3.ini file should be in the windows directory and it is.
Ghostscript has been installed into:
C:\Program Files\gs\gs8.63\bin
So why does it continue to read images but not PDFs?
I am obviously doing something wrong, but what?

Juan,

Cardbox3.ini must be in de Windows folder!
But what you want with PDF? Search content? What is it worth then to see a "picture" of a PDF doc?

Better index/describe it correct in CB and launch the pdf if relevant (I think)!

Hello Bert,
Thank you.
Cardbox.ini is in the windows folder:
C:\windows
I have short manuscripts in PDF format which I wish to import into the image field of the Cardbox database. I have already previously imported some allowing me to read them within Cardbox, but that was on a separate PC which is at another location. I have been trying to import some more using my current PC. So although I installed Ghostscript succesfully on that machine I do not seem to be able to do it here. I seem to be doing everything right but obviously I am not. But what I am doing wrong I do not know.

Juan,
I think the best thing to is now:
1. Try to add quotes around the path to gostscriptin Cardbox3.ini like
Ghostscript="C:\Program Files\gs\gs8.63\bin\gsdll32.dll"
This should not help, but you never knows.

If the problem is still not solved then try this:
1. De-install *using Windows uninstaller* Gostscript.
2. Reboot after de-installation your machine
3. Instal very secure as in the manual (http://cardbox.com/support/kb/importPDF.htm) Gostscript again
4. Don't make mistakes by updating Cardbox3.ini.

If this gives not a good result, describe every step you do while importing a pdf and write were it goes wrong.

Another suggestion: Be sure your pdf is valid. A damaged pdf could cause also trouble. So open it bij Acrobat Reader en see if it is a valid PDF. Better is to check it with Foxit PDF reader because this is a little more critical (Foxit: a very fine, very fast PDF reader which in most cases can replace Adobe).

Success

Thank you again Bert,
I tried adding quotes but it did not make any difference.
I úninstalled Ghostscript, removing both AFPL Ghostscript 8.51 and AFPL Ghostscript Fonts
Rebooted
I downloaded Ghostscript version gs860w32.exe
Installed gs860w32.exe as per Cardbox support into C:\Program files\gs
Edited Cardbox3.ini as per Cardbox instructions
[PDF]
Ghostscript=C:\Program Files\gs\gs8.60\bin\gsdll32.dll
Openned Cardbox.
Selected a record and image field into which to import the PDF file.
Hit "load from file"
Selected the appropiate PDF directory to load from
But still PDF files do not show up.
I am at a loss.

Juan,

You wrote:

When you select in Cardbox "load from file" , first change the Filetypes to "PDF". Then navigate to the right folder/file.
With another filetype selection as PDF you will never see pdf's listed...
Or is "pdf" not listed as a filetype (between TIFF en Kodak) in Cardbox?

Hello Bert,
As you say the pdf filetype does not appear as a choice.

I have just downloaded the new build (4274) of Cardbox available for download hoping that whatever bug I am encountering would have been resolved but its all just the same.
